TREDA Spearheads Economic Growth with Ndzondelelo High School Adoption and SMME Blitz

In a significant move toward fostering grassroots economic development, the Township & Rural Economic Development Agency (TREDA) has announced a dual-purpose mission in Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. Scheduled for March 13, this initiative marks a pivotal step in bridging the gap between academic institutions and the local business ecosystem.

Empowering the Next Generation: The Adoption of Ndzondelelo High School

The day’s proceedings will commence at 09:00 with a historic visit to Ndzondelelo High School. During this visit, TREDA will officially announce the school’s adoption into its development program. This partnership is designed to move beyond traditional education by integrating student entrepreneurship into the high school experience.

By adopting Ndzondelelo High, TREDA aims to:

  • Cultivate an entrepreneurial mindset among learners.
  • Provide mentorship and resources to aspiring student business owners.
  • Establish a direct link between classroom theory and real-world economic participation.

Strengthening the Local Core: The SMME Blitz in KwaZakhele

Following the school visit, the focus shifts to the local business community at 12:00 with a high-energy SMME Blitz & Engagement session in KwaZakhele.

This “blitz” is specifically designed to engage with Small, Medium, and Micro Enterprises (SMMEs) based in the area. The session serves as a platform for TREDA to connect with its affiliates and local entrepreneurs to identify challenges, offer support, and integrate these businesses into a broader economic network.

A Vision for Inclusive Growth

The upcoming visit is a cornerstone of TREDA’s ongoing endeavor to enable a more inclusive economy. By focusing on both students and established SMMEs, the agency is tackling economic development from two sides: preparing the future workforce for self-sufficiency and strengthening the current business owners who drive the township economy.

“This is part of our ongoing endeavour to enable student entrepreneurship and engagement with SMME affiliates of TREDA.”
